Duration of the Diploma Program
The Diploma program duration shall be Three (3) years, full time and not exceeding 5 years.
Academic years
An academic year consists of two semesters. A semester is seventeen (17) weeks; fifteen (15) weeks of Teaching and learning and two of assessments. There are two recess terms during which students are attached to approved relevant training sites for placement.
Method of teaching: Group discussions, Supervised practice, Demonstration and return demonstrations, Field visits, Tutorials, Simulations, Class room discussions, Case studies and case presentation and lectures.
The Award & Tittle
The Examination Board upon satisfaction that the candidate has attained the minimum requirements under relevant regulations and curriculum implementation guidelines, shall award a diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health. Title: Clinical Officer (known as Physician’s Assistant elsewhere)
Job description of a Clinical Officer (Physician’s Assistant)
A Clinical Officer is a general medical practitioner based at a Medical health centre and is able to perform both clinical and community health services covering diagnosis, treatment of disease, injury and minor surgery. He/she offers preventive and rehabilitative health services and refers advanced cases. He/she is able to perform management, and administrative tasks related to human and physical resources including medical legal issues and entrepreneurship engagements.
